Q6, Technologies in the process
What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing this product?
In
pre-production of the film I used Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to do research
in to the genre of film we are going to do (Crime drama, Psychological
thriller, Detective). For the preliminary task we used a Panasonic camera to
film, which came in handy as we learnt how to use the camera, so when it came to
filming the whole two minutes we knew how to use it properly.
In
the production of the film we had two Panasonic cameras; one being a prop and
another to record. We did not run in to any problems whilst filming, so using
the cameras were successful.
In
post-production we used Adobe Premier Pro. This is the best software to edit
available on college computers; we had previous experience of editing using
Adobe Premier Pro when filming the preliminary exercise, although it was
difficult to match the correct sound to the correct shot we eventually fixed
the problem. We also used a voice over on many shots; to do this we used a
voice recorder called ZOOM H1; it was straight forward to use. This was a
decision of ours, as originally we planned to record a wall and just talk to
the camera. Using ZOOM made the quality far better, which made the use of this
technology a success.
At the end of the film we got a piece of music to create a sense of atmosphere, it was called 'Chinease Dog.' We got this from http://freemusicarchive.org/ so there isn't any copyright issues.

Question 7
The preliminary task
The preliminary task the group was given, was to show continuity through a 30 second short film. The brief included a character opening a door, walking through it and having a conversation once sat down with another person. The first shot is a pan shot where the camera follows the character as he comes from round the corner. Next came a match on action where the character opened the door and it was slowly coming back. During the conversation there was a shot reverse shot which overlooked most lines in the task. With over the shoulder shots both characters can be seen using the 180 degrees line the characters look to be in the correct position.
To edit the shots and ordering them we used premier pro software used for editing film footage which we also used to edit the 2 minute project. We added effects, sounds and transition to create a better film visually and with sound.
During the filming of the project however we broke the rule of the 180 degrees as the film was not as smooth and looked poor so the flip made the main character look powerful and aggressive. Having experience with premier pro did help when editing the project due to adding titles and also for continuity making the film a lot smoother.
