Prisoners (2013) research
The film Prisoners (2013) is a thriller which tells the story of how a man tries to rescue his daughter and her friend who have been kidnapped. The film does not stray from the typical thriller which makes the storyline easy to work out. Throughout the film the main character (Keller Dover) repeatedly tries to find the person who has kidnapped his daughter, without the help of the police, which in turn gets him into going against his morals and kidnapping a man who has mental health issues and is a suspect to the police in their search for Dover’s daughter’s kidnapper. The end of the film shows the major plot twist in the storyline as Keller tracks down his daughter and sets them free, however as a result of him rescuing his daughter he is then trapped in the place where the kidnapper was holding them and as the police enter her house to arrest her they cannot find Keller as he is trapped underground, too weak to call for help, never to be seen again.

“Denis Villeneuve’s mess of a movie lines up some meaty
conflicts then fails to follow them through.”

The Telegraph
“Prisoners
has an emotional complexity and a sense of dread that makes for absorbing (and
disturbing) viewing.”
