RESEARCH INTO SIMILAR FILMS

Seven (movie) poster.jpgFilm 1:

Seven (1995)
Cast: Brad Pitt, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey, Gwyneth Paltrow
Director: David Fincher
Plot summary: A soon to be retiring Detective Somerset (Freeman) is given a young new partner, a Detective David Mills (Pitt) who's first case together is finding the psychotic killer punishing individuals committing the seven deadly sins.

Review: Exceptionally gripping psychological crime drama with strong performances from the main cast, especially from Pitt and the chilling Spacey. Seven keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat throughout and the twist and the end is sure the leave them shocked and distraught. We will take great influence from the mood and feeling of this film and try and recreate the same tense atomsphere in our film.

Dark Knight.jpg
Film 2:

The Dark Knight (2008)
Cast: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman
Director: Christopher Nolan
Plot Summary: With the help of police lieutenant James Gordon (Oldman) and newly elected district attorney Harvey Dent (Eckhart), Batman (Bale) raises the stakes on his war on crime by setting out to dismantle the remaining mafia groups that plague the streets. The partnership proves effective, until the mob draw Batman into combat with a criminal lunatic known as "the Joker" (Ledger), whom he must stop from unleashing a reign of chaos that would plunge Gotham City into anarchy.

Review: Whilst not being your typical crime film. The Dark Knight is throughoughly engaging throughout thanks to its amazing cast, cleaver and instantly quotable writing and brilliant artistic direction, making a film about man dressed as a bat appeal to very wide demographic. Although we can't take much from this film in terms of plot influence it;s not a real world crime film, the dark tones of it is something we would love to try and bring to our film.

Research into distributor

RESEARCH INTO DISTRIBUTOR

The film distributor in the process of film is marketing it to the audience. This is an essential part in the entire process, and can often make of break a film. This means choosing the distributor for our film is incredibly important and has to be done correctly.

Gramercy-pictures-log.jpgA suitable distributor for our film I have found is Gramercy Pictures. Formed in 1992 as a joint venture of PolyGram Filmed Entertainment and Universal Pictures. Gramercy was the distributor of PolyGram movies in the United States and Canada, and also served as Universal's art-house division. After Seagram's buyout on PolyGram, Gramercy, along with October Films, was merged by Barry Diller, to form USA Films in 1999. Their first film was released in 1992, the Mario Van Peebles western Posse, in May 1993. Several Gramercy releases of the 1990s have grown in stature to become cult classics in the present day: The Big Lebowski, Fargo, Dazed and Confused, Clay Pigeons and Mallrats, as well as 1995's The Usual Suspects, which went on to win two Oscars.

The releases of Fargo, The Big Lebowski and The Usual Suspects are especially significant as they mean this distributor is perfect for our project. These three films mentioned are all successful, independent crime films, so using Gramaecy Pictures as our distributor could potentially mean our film could have similar success.
